Wedding Sticker

Concept:

A couple was getting married and came to me interested in having a design created for a sticker that they would be having printed as gifts to their guests.

Process:

My first step in the process was to brainstorm and think about what direction I wanted to go with the design. By knowing some things about the clients, I was able to narrow down what kind of aesthetic I would be going for. They had mentioned that their idea to have a sticker was inspired by their collection of brewery stickers that they had gathered over the years. Research on those designs showed an emblem-like, somewhat retro, style which I wanted to try and capture.

After playing with a few different shapes and backgrounds, I settled on a circular design, using only black and white colours. This allowed me to use the mountains and open sky as a framing device for the creative space.

Below I have posted three rejected drafts of the design from my process. Some details were removed to ensure the piece did not get overly crowded, while other elements were altered based off the clients preference.

During final changes, the banner around the names was re-imagined to fit within the circular shape. This was to ensure that the fit and proportions would work while having the stickers printed. Instead of the pointed edges of the original banner, a wooden plank was created to continue with the nature theme.

One final thing to note, while I am a Canadian citizen, while dealing with international clients it is important to consider the dates configuration if presented within designs. In this case for the final piece I had to alter the arrangement after catching my mistake.

Final Product:

The final product ended up being as displayed below.

Feedback:

  • A more minimalistic design  might have had a stronger visual effect.
