Gone with the Clot

Concept:

For my Independent Study project I set out to create the basic foundation for an awareness campaign on Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis. The main deliverables for this campaign included a logo and branding as shown in a style guide, a series of three info graphic posters with information on CVST, a lapel pin/button design and physical print, and a website mock-up and design.

What is CVST?:

CVST stands for Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis. This is when there is the presence of acute thrombosis (a blood clot) in the dural venous sinuses, which drain blood from the brain. Symptoms may include headache, abnormal vision, any of the symptoms of stroke such as weakness of the face and limbs on one side of the body, and seizures.

Process:

My creation process during this project has included use of the Adobe Creative Suite, alongside physical sketches and visual references. Before designing any piece of my project I used paper and a pencil, or a sketch application for tablet, to quickly plan out how the graphic will look.  In regards to Gone with the Clot, my first priority was to come up with the name and logo in order to solidify my brand and campaign style. This was particularly important because the logo would be the one item that would be consistent throughout all platforms, and would need to stand out and stick in people’s minds.

After the brand was created, I focused on the info graphic posters. The posters would be the main piece in the project, and would also include all of the statistics and information I have researched throughout the semester. To display this information I wanted it to be simple and pleasant to look at. For this the use of a vibrant color scheme was implemented, and simple icons and graphics paired with simple text were added.
In regards to the website mock up, the goal was to create the wireframe and outline for how the website would appear and function. This included deciding on the different pages, the navigation, size of sections and colors, and the overall feel of the webpage.

A very important aspect of an awareness campaign is the use of promotional items and social media. The pin print was created and physically printed, and serve as a conversation starter for the campaign.

Feedback:

  • less text in the infographics could have made the posters more appealing to a greater audience.
